Problems of Translation

Translation and the languages around the world have positive and negatives aspects. If everyone in the world spoke the same language  than we would certainty have less conflicts, but also there would be a lost of identity or cultures in my opinion. In the modern day where everything is global, translation is needed to communicate in businesses, school, literature, etc. But translation has 3 main problems that cause conflict.
The first problem is the context, since to know the meaning of a word, you must also understand the meaning of the words it is related to and the words around it. For example to understand if something is sarcasm, you must understand the circumstances it is being said, to know if you should take it literally or as a joke.
The second problem is the words that cannot be translated to other languages. Expressions like "saudade" in Portuguese or expressions like Cholo. This words can sometimes be explained, but have no direct translation.
The third problem are the idiomatic expressions. Expressions that in a country mean something, might not mean anything in another language. For example Tina threw a spanner in the work makes no sense in Spanish, so if someone was to translate that the message would not get across.

Translation does have problems but it also makes each language special I think, this unique words make each country and the language they use there own, and only having one would make it a lot less interesting. This makes me think a lot of my aunt, she works in the UN as a interpreter, and once I asked why interpreter and not translater and found the answer very interesting and relevant. When professionals translate, they dont directly translate word by word, but the whole idea and the message. That way the message gets across, but of course makes the job much more difficult, since the interpreter has to be informed  for example if the conversation would be in medicine, he would have to be familiar with language and terms in order to successfully translating it.
